Cesar Chavez and the Fight for Worker’s Rights Unit Study
It is Hispanic Heritage Month and we are giving away a lesson about Cesar Chavez, a civil rights activist and labor leader who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association. He emphasized direct, nonviolent tactics as a way to gain better wages and working conditions for farm workers.
This unit is designed to be done with any age student, all you need to do is use a biography with it that meets your student’s reading level. You can also choose to read the book to them. The program has a couple of suggestions for younger students.
This unit study includes: geography, math, social studies, Spanish, copy work, and more!

Learning Through Literature
Your free lesson plan is a literature-based unit study all about the Cesar Chavez and the labor movement in the United States.
It all starts with an engaging biography of Cesar Chavez. There are many to choose from, but we recommend a few options including Who Was the Voice of the People by Terry Blas, a graphic novel that is sure to bring the story of Chavez and his work to life.
The lesson plans will have your child learning not just history, but art, geography, science, and a little Spanish. We also provide a quote for your child to use as copywork this month, so they can improve their handwriting, spelling, and grammar.
Why?
Why give away a lesson? It just feels like the right thing to do. Cesar Chavez is an American hero and we choose to honor him and his story this month by sharing this free lesson plan with you. As always, our lesson plans are appropriate for a range of ages, and learning styles. This program is designed to be used with students ages 5-10, with or without learning disabilities and neurodiversity.
