The Circuit Unit Study
The Circuit byFrancisco Jimenez is about the author’s experience as a migrant child picking crops in California in the 1940s. His family immigrated to the United States from Mexico seeking a better life. They lived without running water and electricity and did back breaking labor picking strawberries, cotton and other crops. The book is available in both a novel version and in a graphic novel. You can choose the one that works best for your student.
This unit study includes lessons about health, science, geography, math, social studies, a more! Using this unique piece of literature makes the lesson accessible for student from both middle school and high school and those with learning disabilities.
This unit is written directly to the student, with a couple of pages at the beginning for you, the teacher, to give you more insight into the reasoning behind the lessons. I hope this creates a good opportunity to let your student take the lead in pacing their own work.

Everyone asks how long to expect a unit like this to take. For my test run with my daughter, we spent about two weeks on this unit study. This included reading the book and doing a couple of activities each day. Your mileage may vary.
The Circuit is available in two formats. There is a graphic novel version (pink cover). The other version is a more traditional novel format.
Why?
Why give away a lesson? It just feels like the right thing to do.
As always, our lesson plans are appropriate for a range of ages, and learning styles. This program is designed to be used with students in middle or high school, regardless of learning disabilities and neurodiversities.
